WHAT IS WARM LASER THERAPY?
Warm laser therapy is a non-invasive, non-medicinal form of light therapy for many common, yet persistent conditions.
We use warm laser therapy on nearly all routine surgical procedures. Laser therapy promotes the acceleration of the healing process, and also reduces the pain for the patient.
Laser therapy can also be used for various musculoskeletal conditions that our pets develop during a lifetime. These conditions can come from increased age in our geriatric friends, or from an injury in our energenic pets that overextend their abilities. By aiding in the reduction of inflammation, therapy laser can offer a safer alternative to the medicinal approach that can have side effects later in life.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Warm laser therapy works by using various wavelengths of light to penetrate tissues at the cellular level. Increased metabolic activity within the cell stimulates the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane initiating increased production of cellular energy..
HOW IS IT USED?
For the post surgical procedures, we generally perform one laser treatment within 5 – 10 minutes after the procedure. For some surgical procedures, the laser treatment is performed again the next day. Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain.
Chronic, or musculoskeletal conditions respond better when treatments are received 2-3x a week, tapering to once every week or two as improvement is seen. For chronic cases, it takes more time to see improvement but the results have been wonderful!
How long does it take? Most procedures only last between 2-10 minutes! These are quick and easy appointments which our furry companions seem to really enjoy, finding the warmth of the laser soothing to sore areas.
